Where’d The Cool Badge Come From?

We had a reader ask a question about where to find the nice “Follow Me On Twitter” button we’re using in the sidebar…

I got it from a post I found which features 181 cool Twitter logos.  Go there and find something nice!  I’m graphics-disabled, so I love finding these type resources!

I find the wave of well-designed badges an interesting evolution of the animated GIF issue. As we all know, junky animated GIFs used to be all the range, then folks got overwhelmed and Web site maintainers rebelled.

Now these well-made ones have come along and they’re popping up all over individual and corporate sites (case example: Huffington Post), but they’re causing sites to devolve into a visual clutter reminiscent (but nowhere as bad) as the GIF issue of the late ’90s.

I wonder if we’ll ever get to a point of having widespread adoption of a few core visual specs on the Web. (ala Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines).

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_interface_guidelines for more.
