An interesting experiment I watched this morning online was from the producer of WKRN in Nashville and it honestly proved to be very compelling.

Christian Grantham posts interesting local links to the Nashville is Talking blog and he’s doing something I think is outside the box and is highly entertaining. He explains why he chooses different posts in his morning live stream that he is linking to, chats about news and talks back and forth with people in his chatroom.

The broadcast airs daily from 6 a.m to 7 a.m. CST and while he is on camera (in pajamas with a cup of java), he is creating a dialog with viewers. He also has an ongoing commentary about news of the day. I signed into the chat room he has also set up, which he also talks about on air. While he is at work at WKRN during the day, you can watch his dogs if you are so inclined.

This, campers, is coloring outside the lines. (Two cliches for the price of one. Yay me.)

Tune in live 6-7am CT Monday through Friday for the Morning Browser, a live read of the day’s posts on Nashville, TN area blogs.

Tune in from 7am – 6pm CT Monday through Friday to watch Mimi Boshimi and Trudy Capootie wait around all day for their human friends to get back home.

It is compelling to watch a blog/news producer get ready for the day, perusing local blogs for the morning browser segment of Nashville is Talking. Grantham is utilizing UStream for this experiment.

Why does this work? It’s simple. Grantham is accessible, you can watch the thought process that goes behind a media outlet employee and in doing so, he breaks down the fourth wall that has, in the past, separated journalism and its audience.
