You’ve probably figured out by now that Newscoma and I are big fans of Twitter. I use it for both news and socializing, and we even use it as a communications tool for things we’re doing with this site. In fact, ‘Coma and I have never physically met one another–we met on Twitter.
If you have a site up already and are using Twitter, one thing you may be interested in doing is creating Tweets automatically when you post to your blog. If you’re using WordPress, it’s very easy–just grab the Twitter Tools plugin and install. If this is your first time installing a plugin yourself, please do not be intimidated! This one is great of first timers because of the easy to follow instructions and the fact that you only have to move one file over to your server.
One you’ve installed the plugin, one issue you may want to consider is whether or not you want to use your regular Twitter account or create a separate account just for your website. If you post to your site frequently, I’d say you should definitely create a separate account–that’s what we’ve done here. If you aren’t posting as often but spend lots of time on Twitter, it may not be too annoying for your followers to get notification of your new blog posts. Again, it’s a judgment call.
